Northend United 2 Carryduff Colts 2   Saturday 23rd April 2022

The OMCO garden sponsored 2011s were up against Carryduff this weekend and with a lot of absentees, the team headed up the road with only 8 players. With Northend having most of the play in the opposing half they were caught out with a big clearance which one of the Carryduff forwards ran onto and he scuffed into the net. Half time 0-1

The second half got off to a better start with Northend putting Carryduff under a lot of pressure one of their defenders deliberately handled the ball on the line. Jude Melarkey rifled the penalty into the bottom corner. Northend were now dominating and with Charlie O’Neill now in midfield was very unlucky not to double the score when shooting from distance only to be denied by a great save from the goalkeeper. The second goal was created by Marco Smyth who went past two opposing players on the right wing and whipped in a great cross which Melarkey finished superbly. Chances were missed all over the park, Melarkey hit the post and crossbar and then the dreaded sucker punch came with their second shot of the game Carryduff equalised with one min remaining. Thomas Cairns played a great game and the team appreciated him helping us out today when we were short of numbers. Full time 2-2

Northend United 1 Windmill Stars 0   Saturday 9th April 2022

For the second week running the Omco Garden sponsored 2011s we’re up against Windmill Stars. With only 9 players to call upon it was always going to be a tough game. With few chances in the first half both teams went in all square at half time.  Half time 0-0

The second half began better with a few positions being changed with Ava Carol dropping into centre half and Charlie O’Neill switching to centre midfield this seemed to help the team. Northend were awarded a free kick with Carol smashing it from distance the keeper could only manage to palm into the goal. O’Neill played a great pass to Jonah Weir-Rogers who smashed it off the crossbar when we’ll placed. Full time 1-0

Northend United 2 Windmill Stars 1  Cup Semi-Final Saurday 2nd April 2022

The Omco Garden Room sponsored 2011s United team were up against Newry based side, Windmill Stars, in the semi-final of the Lisburn League cup this week. Just like every week this team doesn’t start playing until they let the other team take the lead. After 10 mins they found themselves 1 nil down from a corner that fell in the box and a Windmill Stars player had a simple tap in. This spurred the team on and with good battling performances in the middle of the park from Ava Carol and Marco Smyth, the play was now all in the Windmill half. Northend got their equaliser, when Finn Hudson crossed the ball to Jonah Weir Rogers who rifled in from 12 yards. Half time 1-1

The second half started the same way as the first ended with Northend on top and Jayden Cassley causing lots of problems down the left hand side with some outrageous skill. The last 15 minutes turned into a great battle and the level of football may have dropped but there was more fight in Northend and individual battles were being won all over the pitch. With 10 minutes remaining, Hudson played another amazing pass from the left hand side in his own half which Weir Rogers ran onto from the right hand side to place in the bottom right corner of the net. Jude Melarkey was looking comfortable in nets and his distribution of the ball was excellent. Shea Quinn and Daniel Biegacz put a great shift in and never gave the opponents a min on the ball which caused havoc in windmill stars defence. Full time 2-1

Northend United 4 Lisburn Rangers 1  Cup Quarter Final   Saturday 19th March 2022

Northend United U11s OMCO rooms sponsored team had a Cup quarter final match against Lisburn Rangers. In a half of very little chances and a strong wind against NE the half ended 1nil to Lisburn Rangers. Half time 0-1

Northend came out in the second half and used the strong wind to their advantage and they were quickly on level terms when Jude Melarkey cut inside and smashed a bullet from distance which the keeper had no chance with. Northend were now dominating the match and they were soon winning with a piece of good fortune when Charlie O'Neill cleared a ball from his own half which bounced before the Lisburn goalkeeper and well over his head and straight into the net. The third goal came from Jonah Weir Rogers who was put through by Ava Carroll and with extreme coolness slotted it into the bottom corner. Lisburn Rangers could only create one chance in the second half which looked like it was for the top corner but for a wonder save from Jayden Cassley. The match was put to bed with substitute Daniel Biegacz grabbing a goal from a cross from Weir Rogers. Full time 4-1

Northend United 2 FC Braga 2    Saturday 12th March 2022

The under 11s this week faced FC Braga and with some nice football being played all over the pitch they were rewarded straight from a Jude Melarkey corner which the keeper fumbled into his own goal. With plenty of opportunities being missed by the team half time came and it was somehow still only 1 nil. Half time 1-0

Within 5 minutes of the start the half the team found itself 2-1 down with a crazy own goal and a big kick up the field which looped over Melarkey who was now in nets. Northend missed a number of chances to get themselves back on level terms with Marco Smyth and Jonah Weir Rogers playing some nice football with the latter playing a through ball to Jayden Cassley who put the ball just wide when well placed. The equaliser came from Weir Rogers who smashed the ball into the back of the net when put through on goal by Ava Carroll. With Finn Hudson bombing down the wing and putting in some great balls into the box chances with missed to take the lead. The final whistle came, and the game ended 2-2 which was a disappointing result considering FC Braga only had one shot in the whole game. Full time 2-2
